La striscia di Arabat (in russo Арабатская стрелка, traslitterato in Arabatskaja strelka; in ucraino Арабатська стрілка, traslitterato in Arabatska strilka; in tataro di Crimea Arabat beli, chiamata anche Lingua di Arabat e, letteralmente, Lancetta di Arabat, e comunemente ortografata erroneamente come Arabatskaja Strelka in russo ed Arabats'ka Strilka in ucraino) è rappresentata da una sottile linea di terra che separa dal mare d'Azov, da sud a nord, un ampio sistema di lagune, poco profondo e molto salato, denominato Sivaṣ o “Mare Putrido“ od anche "Mare Marcio", per la presenza d'acqua marina stagnante, dato lo scarso ricambio operato dalle deboli correnti marine.

Striscia di Gaza
Col termine striscia di Gaza (in ebraico: רצועת עזה, Retzu'at 'Azza) si indica un territorio palestinese confinante con Israele ed Egitto nei pressi della città di Gaza. Si tratta di una regione costiera di 360 km² di superficie popolata da circa 1.760.037 abitanti di etnia palestinese, di cui 1.240.082 rifugiati palestinesi. Rivendicato dai palestinesi, assieme alla Cisgiordania e a Gerusalemme Est, come parte dello Stato di Palestina nella regione storico-geografica della Palestina, dal 2007 è governato da Hamas in seguito alle elezioni legislative del 2006 e alla battaglia di Gaza del 2007. Nonostante il ritiro dei militari e dei civili israeliani da Gaza nel 2005, le Nazioni Unite, le organizzazioni internazionali per i diritti umani, e la maggioranza dei governi e dei giuristi considerano il territorio ancora occupato da Israele, che mantiene sulla striscia un blocco insieme all'Egitto. Israele controlla lo spazio aereo e marittimo della striscia, sei dei sette attraversamenti della frontiera terrestre e il movimento di merci e persone dentro e fuori dalla striscia.*"Israel claims it no longer occupies the Gaza Strip, maintaining that it is neither a Stale nor a territory occupied or controlled by Israel, but rather it has 'sui generis' status. Israel has declared a no-go buffer zone that stretches deep into Gaza: if Gazans enter this zone they are shot on sight. Gaza is also dependent on Israel for water, electricity, telecommunications and other utilities, currency, issuing IDs, and permits to enter and leave the territory. Israel also has sole control of the Palestinian Population Registry through which the Israeli Army regulates who is classified as a Palestinian and who is a Gazan or West Banker.
